Mourinho contacts Walter Samuel over assistant coach job
The Portuguese coach is selecting his coaching team ahead of his return to Italian football.
Jose Mourinho
was appointed as
Roma’s next coach as the club decided to part ways with
Paulo Fonseca
. The Portuguese coach will join the Giallorossi in the summer, starting his second spell in the Italian top-flight. Mourinho has reportedly appointed
Leicester City’s
Jose Fontes
as Roma’s next senior scout. According to
Il Corriere dello Sport
, the club’s current scout
Ricardo Formosinho
will continue his coaching career in Sudan. Mourinho has also contacted
Walter Samuel
in recent days, offering him the team’s assistant coach job. Samuel won the Scudetto with Roma in 2000-01 and he was also part of Jose Mourinho’s
Interthat won the treble in 2010. The former Argentina international is currently working as
Lionel Scaloni
’s assistant at Argentina. However, Mourinho’s offer might motivate him to return to Italy. The 43-year-old is expected to join Roma after this summer’s Copa America.
