‘He will play here one day’, Sporting president on Ronaldo's return

Sporting president Frederico Varandas believes that 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo will one day return to play for the club he started his career with.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s departure is very likely if


fail to secure Champions League qualification and a return to his training club Sporting has been mooted recently.

has denied all rumors linking the Portugal captain with a possible return to the Verde e Brancos, even if Ronaldo enters the last year of his contract with Juventus and the rumors of a future elsewhere continue.

Asked whether Ronaldo will head back to Lisbon at some stage, Sporting president Varandas told

"I think he will play here one day. 

"Cristiano was among the first to send me a message to congratulate us for the championship victory. 

"Now, however, he has another year on his contract with Juve and I know he wants to continue competing to win the Champions League. 

"Obviously his return here depends on him: in addition to being a great player, Cristiano is a great fan of Sporting."
