Juventus legend Del Piero to return as the new club president?

According to Il Messaggero, Alessandro Del Piero is one of the nominees to become Juventus President next season.

Former Italy and Juventus striker currently works as an ESPN analyst, but the Rome-based newspaper reports that he could return to Turin to succeed

Andrea Agnelli

Agnelli was a key figure in the formation of the

Super League

, which was revealed only a week ago.

The plant, however, fell apart within 48 hours, and Agnelli's job is now in jeopardy. Agnelli has no plans to withdraw, although his nephew, Exor CEO John Elakann, will wish to oust him from the role at the company's next shareholders' meeting on May 27.

The 46-year-old Del Piero isn't the only one vying for the role of Juventus President.

Alessandro Nasi is the frontrunner for the job, while Marcello Lippi, a former Juventus, and Italy coach, has emerged as a possible substitute for Agnelli.

Ex-Juventus forward

David Trezeguet

hinted in April that he and Del Piero could be moving back to the club.
