Former Sevilla coach appointed as Al-Ain manager

Al-Ain's poor results led them to turn to the former head coach of Sevilla, Espanyol and Alaves.

Pablo Machin became the club's head coach in Saudi Arabia less than a month after his dismissal from Alaves.

Machin was selected as the head coach of Al-Ain in Saudi Arabia and took over the team while they were at the bottom of the table, gaining only 10 points in 15 games and also having 5 consecutive defeats in their recent games.

Several Al-Ain players have previously played in Europe, includingformer former Lazio player,  Bastos, Algerian midfielder Saphire Taider who once played for Inter, Southampton and Bologna , as well as former Celta Vigo midfielder Philippe Bradaric and former Malaga player Juan Pablo Anor.

Machin also had an offer from Asia last year. Chinese Premier League club Qingdao Huanghai had reached an agreement with him, but after Alaves' offer, he left for La Liga.

Under Machin, Alaves gained just 18 points in 18 games and was ranked 16th in La Liga, and he was replaced by Abelardo.

Machin became famous for Girona's first promotion to the first level of Spanish football in 2017. He mainly used the 3-5-2 system in his games, which is less used in modern football. He also led Sevilla, but was sacked in March 2019 after being eliminated from the round of 16 of the Europa League. He also did not do well with Espanyol last year until he was eventually replaced by David Gallego.
