Ligue 1 transfer rumours of 2021

in recent weeks. Of course not all rumours turn into reality in the end, but many football enthusiasts have learned that anything is possible, especially Real Madrid and Barcelona, whose superstars, namely

, Luis Figo and Neymar, all decided to sign for a different club after becoming a vital part of their teams.

Ligue 1 transfer rumours of 2021

Before delving into the Ligue 1 January transfer window news of 2021, we have provided below some of the most exciting transfer rumors that have been going around recently. One rumor in particular could be the most exciting of them all, as it had the whole world talking about it for several days, with millions of tweets being tweeted following news. Let us have a look and see if you have guessed which transfer rumor we are talking about.

Lionel Messi

  • Transfer: Barcelona-Paris Saint-Germain

Many of you could obviously guess which transfer rumor we were talking about above. There are exciting rumors going around about Lionel Messi’s next destination, as the Argentine superstar has reiterated his desire to leave Barcelona at the end of contract. The problems began when Lionel Messi talked about his fall out with former

Barcelona

director, Josep Bartomeu, as the Argentina international was growing weary of his policies.

Of course anything is possible and he could decide to stay at the Catalan club and stay until the end of his career, but it seems unlikely as he seems to have grown tired of the club’s policies and strategies, especially when it comes to their recent purchases and transfer plans, which saw his long-time friend and teammate, Luis Suarez, leave for Atletico Madrid for free.

It is said that there are two clubs which Messi is torn between, which are Paris Saint-Germain and

Manchester City

. While some believe that the Argentinian will leave for the Premier League side, Manchester City in order to join his former manager Pep Guardiola, under whom he realized his full potential and won the historic sextuple with Barcelona, others believe that Messi is considering a move to PSG for a reunion with his former teammate, Neymar, alongside whom he had created one of the most lethal trios in football history with the presence of Suarez as well.

Based on the

latest Ligue 1 transfer news and rumours

, PSG officials are planning on handing Messi a whopping contract to lure him into their squad, as Messi seems eager to meet up with his old buddy. Barcelona’s all-time highest goal scorer’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2021 and he is free to sign a pre-contract deal with any club that he desires.

Messi has already won 4 Champions League trophies, 10

La Liga

titles, 6 Copas del Rey, 3 FIFA Club World Cups, 8 Spanish Super Cups, 3 UEFA Supercups and a whole array of other individual and collective trophies, awards and honors in his career, and surely he does not need any more trophies and it cannot be his reason for leaving. We shall have to wait and see if there will be any factual Ligue 1 January transfer news of 2021 about Messi’s next move.

Moussa Dembele

  • Transfer: Lyon-Atletico Madrid

Based on the

Ligue 1 latest transfer news of 2021

, Olympique Lyonnais’ Moussa Dembele is set to join La Liga side,

Atletico Madrid

, whose manager Diego Simeone has announced that the negotiations are at their final stages and the striker’s move to Spain is imminent. Of course we have seen negotiations fall through at such advanced stages, which means that nothing is put on paper at the moment and everything could go south anytime.

While Atletico Madrid have Joao Felix and former Barcelona striker,

Luis Suarez

, in their ranks, Diego Costa’s departure from the team has left El Cholo thinking about a new striker to fill in his shoes and provide a backup for their most expensive teenager and their veteran goal machine. Moussa Dembele has been an up and coming forward, as he has moved up the ranks by starting his career at Fulham, moving to Celtic and later joining Lyon in 2018.

The 2020/21 season has not been as the 24-year-old might have wanted, however, as he has only played a total of 670 minutes in 16 appearances, scoring only 1 goal in the process, whereas he managed to make 27 appearances in Ligue 1 last season and play a total of 2189 minutes, scoring 16 goals in the process. The French center-forward could be one of the

Ligue 1 January transfer done deals in 2021

, but as of now, nothing is done and announced yet.

Jese Rodriguez

  • Transfer: Paris Saint-Germain-Free agent

Ligue 1 January transfer news of 2021

could also be about Jese Rodriguez, who has recently been released from PSG after a reported sex scandal. While rodriguez is sacked by the club, it should not be that hard for the Spaniard to find another team, as he had spent several of his recent years on loan at Sporting CP, Real Betis and

Stoke City

.

The Real Madrid Castilla product had his best time during his spell at

Real Madrid

from 2013 to 2016, but it seems that the 27-year-old has hit a rough patch in his career, and urgently needs the tides to turn in his favor.

Ligue 1 January transfer done deals in 2021

Now that we have talked about some of the hottest rumors of the year, let us take a look at the done deals in the first transfer window of the new year. We will be bringing you all the news about done deals and actual transfers to and from Ligue 1 teams. So follow us below as we provide you with

William Saliba

  • Transfer: Arsenal-Nice

  • Transfer fee: TBD/On loan

William Saliba might have been dubbed by Rio Ferdinand as a ‘waste of money’ after he signed for Arsenal in 2019 for a reported fee of €30 million, but he has gotten the chance to prove former Manchester United defender wrong by performing well during his loan spell at Nice. He did in fact join

Arsenal

from another Ligue 1 club, which was

Saint-Etienne

, but it seems that he could escape the French league as he goes back to the competition by signing for Nice.

His market value has dropped drastically since his move to Arsenal and it seems that Mikel Arteta will have to rethink his transfer policies as there is currently no place for Saliba in his squad. Him joining the French club in the Ligue 1 winter transfer window of 2021 could help him turn the tides in his favor as anything is possible for the 19-year-old defender.

He joined these clubs during his spell at Liverpool, whom he had in fact joined from Sporting CP.

  • Transfer fee: TBD/On loan

German-born French center-forward

Jean-Philippe Krasso

has officially joined third tier side Le Mans FC on loan for the remainder of the current season. He made a total of 6 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, playing 220 minutes overall as he came on as a substitute in all of the games except two. • Transfer fee: TBD/On loan

It was recently announced that Lyon have sent their 25-year-old left-back Youssouf Kone out on loan to the Turkish Super Lig side

Hayatspor

on loan until the end of the current season. The Mali international’s transfer market value saw a rise when he first joined Olympique Lyon from Reims for reportedly €8 million, but he has since failed to live up to the expectations that came from his transfer fee.

  • Transfer: Rennes-Hoffenheim

  • Transfer fee: €500K

Hoffenheim have made another signing this season in the January transfer window and have acquired the services of 18-year-old center-forward Georginio Rutter from Rennes for reportedly half a million Euros. The French talent’s actual market value is believed to be double the fee that the German side have paid, which means that they have gotten their hands on the young prospect with quite a discount.

Rutter already has a goal in the UEFA Champions League, as he scored his first goal of the competition this season as he came on as a substitute in the final twenty minutes of the game.

  • Transfer: Koln - Saint-Etienne

  • Transfer fee: TBD/On loan

Saint-Etienne have brought in a center-forward this season, as Koln have agreed to loan out

Anthony Modeste

to the French side for the remainder of the season. 32-year-old Modeste had the best time of his career at Koln, where his performances earned him a €29 million move to China, where he stayed for less than a year before returning to his old club once again. The French goal scorer is no stranger to loan moves and has now moved to Saint-Etienne until June 2021.
