Premier League 21/22 season is on and the values of players have changed for sure. In this post, however, we are to Premier League clubs with the most valuable players in 2020-21 season and will let you know how much the value of these players were, indeed roughly, in the past season.

We have handpicked 5 most valuable players of the Premier League most valuable clubs in 2020-21 season who actually contributed the most to the overall value of their clubs - the rest in each club may also have values near these 5, but you know, we cannot talk about all of them here, though we may mention them shortly here or there throughout the post.

The value of the clubs has been estimated as of May 2021 - end of Premier League 2020-21 season - and the value of their most valuable players is also a rough estimation as of the end of Premier League 2020-21 season. At the end of the post, we will also let you know about the top five most valuable players in the Premier League 2020-21 season.

A List of Premier League Clubs with the Most Valuable Players in 2020-21 Season

Manchester City was the Premier League most valuable club in 2020-21 season with a value of $1.13bn, however, Premier League’s most valuable player in 2020-21 season is not among Manchester City players. Then which club owns this most valuable player of Premier League in the past season? Stay with us to know.

Please note that the value in parentheses in front of each club’s name in the title is the value of that club as of May 2021 - the end of 2020-21 season.

Manchester City ($1.13bn)

Number one on the list of

Premier League clubs with the most valuable players in 2020-21 season

, Manchester City had the most valuable players in 2020-21 season, however, as we mentioned above the most valuable player in Premier League 2020-21 season was not among Manchester City players - we’ll let you know later about him. Manchester City’s most valuable player in the past season was Kevin De Bruyne with a value of $110 million.

The 4 other players next to De Bruyne concerning their values in the previous season are Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden, Ruben Dias, and Bernardo Silva with a value of $99m, $88m, $82m, and $77m, respectively. As you see, the value of the first 5 most valuable players of Manchester City in the previous season is not lower than $77m, and to tell you the truth, the value of the next 5 most valuable players of the club doesn’t go below $50m which shows why Manchester City tops the list of Premier League clubs with the most valuable players in 2020-21 season.

It should be mentioned, of course, that Ruben Dias joined Manchester City from Benfica sometime in mid-2020-21 season - actually in September 2020 - with a transfer fee of $74.8m; his value at the time was $38.5m which, as you see, rose to $82m at the end of the season; something more than two times higher than his value at the time of joining the Sky Blues. And City’s player with the lowest value in 2020-21 season was the 24-year-old winger, Patrick Roberts, with a value of $2.2 m.

Liverpool ($1.11bn)

The second club on the list of Premier League clubs with the most valuable players in 2020-21 season and actually one of the only two clubs alongside Manchester City with a value higher than a billion dollars in the past season (2020-21),

Liverpool

had also - and actually still has - players as valuable as those of City’s. In fact, Mohamed Salah of Liverpool was as valuable as Kevin de Bruyne in the past season - his market value was $110m.

However, if you compare the value of the next 4 most valuable Liverpool players in the past season with their counterparts in Manchester City, you’ll probably notice a slight decrease: Sadio Mane, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, and

Alisson

were actually the next most valuable players after Mohamed Salah in the previous season with a value of $93.5m, $82.5m, $71.5m, and $66m respectively - just compare their values to the values of City’s players mentioned above to see the slight decrease.

Also the 10th player on the list of Liverpool most valuable players in the past season was worth $35.2m; this is as the same position on Manchester City’s most valuable players list held a value higher than $50m. And Liverpool’s least valuable player in the past season (2020-21) was the 34-year-old Spanish goalkeeper, Adrian, with a value of $1.1m.

Chelsea ($857m)

And here comes the third club on the list of Premier League clubs with the most valuable players in 2020-21 season: Chelsea. Unlike Liverpool whose value decreased from $1.11bn in May 2021 to $953m in October 2021, Chelsea’s value went the other way and increased from $857m to $979m in the same time period which means the value of its players has increased since May 2021. Anyway, let’s see what the value of Chelsea’s top five most valuable players was back in May 2021 - the gauge time in our post.

Unlike Liverpool and Manchester City whose most valuable players in May 2021 were worth higher than $90m, Chelsea’s most valuable player in the same time didn’t see a value higher than $83m. Mason Mount was actually Chelsea’s most valuable player at the end of 2020-21 season with a value of $82.5m followed by Kai Havertz, Timo Werner,

N'Golo Kante

, and Christian Pulisic with a value of $77m, $.71.5m, $60.5m, and $55m, respectively.

In fact, Christian Pulisic was the last player on the list of Chelsea’s most valuable players at the end of 2020-21 season with a value higher than $50m, though the other two players next to him on the list were worth near $50m - actually $49.5m. And Chelsea’s least valuable player in the previous season (2020-21) was the 40-year-old Argentinian goalkeeper, Willy Caballero, with a value of $275k. He’s no more with the club - actually with no club - and, as you can guess, near his retirement.

Manchester United ($788m)

You might have expected to see

Manchester United

at the top of the list of

Premier League clubs with the most valuable players in 2020-21 season

, but that’s not so; the Red Devils occupied the fourth position on the list at the endo of 2020-21 season (May 2021), though they have improved since and now (October 2021) occupy the second position with a value of $1.03bn - the club’s value has risen by 26.6% since May 2021 which is one of the highest increases in value on the list.

Well, let’s see who’ve been Man Utd’s most valuable players at the end of 2020-21 season. They are Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood, and Harry Maguire with a market value of $99m, $93.5m, $66m, $55m, and $49.5m.

As you see, the fifth player is actually worth less than $50m, however, the first two players have compensated for that and even more so that if you add up the value of Man Utd’s top five most valuable players, it will be more than the sum of the value of Chelsea’s top five most valuable players: $363m vs $346.5m plus that Man Utd’s first two most valuable players are worth higher than $90m while Chelsea’s most valuable player hasn’t seen even the value of $83m at the end of 2020-21 season.

And if you like to know about Man Utd’s least valuable player in 2020-21 season, that is the 38-year-old goalkeeper, Lee Grant, whose value was $275k at the end of 2020-21 season - as valuable as Chelsea’s least valuable player at the same time.

Tottenham Hotspur ($748m)

Although

Tottenham

is not among one of the top three Premier League clubs with the most valuable players in 2020-21 season, it actually owned - and still does - the most valuable player in the same Premier League season: the 26-year-old forward, Harry Kane, with a value of $132m who still has the same value - as of this date (October 9, 2021). So, if we are to list the top five most valuable players in the Premier League 2020-21 season, as we do at the end of this post, Harry Kane will top the list.

And if we add up the value of Tottenham’s top five most valuable players in the past season, it will be more than the value of Chelsea’s top five most valuable players in the same season: $354.2 vs $346.5, however, as you see, in this respect, Tottenham is still behind Manchester United by around $10m. Based on what we said above, if we are to list the Premier League most valuable clubs in 2020-21 season based on the sum of their top five most valuable players, Manchester United should occupy the third place, Tottenham the fourth and Chelsea the fifth, while Liverpool and Manchester City keep their positions on the list.

Ok, let’s see how valuable Tottenham’s four most valuable players after Harry Kane were in the past season. Heung-min Son, Tanguy Ndombele,

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

and Davinson Sanchez are actually these four players with a value of $93.5m, $55m, $38.5m, and $35.2m, respectively. As you see the value of Tottenham’s fourth and fifth most valuable players in 2020-21 season were below $40m; something that actually didn’t happen neither to Manchester United nor to Chelsea. And the value of Tottenham’s least valuable player in the previous season was $1.1m belonging to the 23-year-old English goalkeeper, Alfie Whiteman, which is still higher than the value of Chelsea and Man Utd’s least valuable players in the same season.

Arsenal ($604m)

As we go down on the list of

Premier League clubs with the most valuable players in 2020-21 season

, you should expect less valuable players, and this is what becomes quite tangible about Arsenal: While the most valuable player of each of the clubs before Arsenal on the list is worth at least $90m - indeed except for Chelsea, Arsenal’s most valuable player is behind by around $20m in this respect. Arsenal’s most valuable player in the previous season was Bukayo Saka who was worth only $71.5m at the end of the season. And Arsenal’s next four most valuable players in the same season were no better than Saka in comparison with their counterparts in the clubs above Arsenal on the list.

Arsenal’s next four most valuable players in the previous season (2020-21) were Thomas Partey, Martin Odegaard, Nicolas Pepe, and

Kieran Tierney

with a value of $44m, $44m, $38.5m, and $32.5m, respectively. If you add up the value of Arsenal’s top five most valuable players in the previous season, it will be $233.2m which, as you see, is by more than $100m lower than the sum of the value of  Chelsea’s top five most valuable players let alone other most valuable clubs. And who was Arsenal’s least valuable player in the previous season? Well, that was the 27-year-old English goalkeeper, Matt Macey, with a value of $330k - still more valuable than Chelsea and Man Utd’s least valuable players in the past season.

Leicester City ($523m)

Occupying the 7th position on the list of Premier League clubs with the most valuable players in 2020-21 season, Leicester City was worth $523m in the previous season - indeed if you only take the value of its players into consideration. The club’s most valuable player in the previous season (2020-21) was the young defender, Wilfred Ndidi, with a value of $66m followed by Youri Tielemans, James Maddison, the Turkish footballer, Caglar Soyuncu, and

Wesley Fofana

who were worth $60.5m, $60.5m, $49.5m, and $44m, at the end of the previous season, respectively. And the least valuable player of Leicester City in the previous season was the 37-year-old Swiss goalkeeper, Eldin Jakupovic, with a value of $330k.

Everton ($511m)

Everton is actually the first club on the list that not all its top five most valuable players in the previous season are currently playing for the club. Everton’s fourth most valuable player in the previous season, the 21-year-old Italian forward, Moise Kean, who was back from loan to PSG is now on loan again to Juventus and James Rodriguez who had joined Everton from Real Madrid has been with the Qatari club, Al-Rayyan, a few months later since the start of 2021-22 season.

Well, let’s see who’ve been Everton’s top five most valuable players in the previous season (2020-21). They are the 23-year-old Brazilian forward, Richarlison, the 23-year-old English forward, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the 26-year-old French left back,

Lucas Digne

, and as you know, Moise Kean, and James Rodriguez with a value of $60.5m, $49.5m, $38.5m, $38.5m, and $30.8m, respectively. And Everton’s least valuable player in the previous season was the 27-year-old English defender, Matthew Pennington, with a value of $660k - he’s no more with Everton though.

Wolverhampton Wanderers ($453m)

The interesting fact about Wolverhampton Wanderers is that while the value of top five most valuable players of some of the clubs already mentioned in this post didn’t go down below $50m in the past season (2020-21), Wolverhampton Wanderers’ most valuable player actually costed less than $50m in the same season let alone the other players who follow him on the list of the club’s most valuable players in the previous season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ most valuable player in 2020-21 season was the Portuguese defensive midfielder, Ruben Neves, with a value of $49.5m. The next player on the list of the Wolves’ most valuable players in the previous season, Diogo Jota, costed the same, and then we have

Pedro Neto

, Leander Dendoncker, and Adama Traore as the Wolves’ third, fourth, and fifth most valuable players with a value of $38.5m, $33m, and $33m, respectively. The Wolves’ least valuable player in 2020-21 season was the 24-year-old English goalkeeper, Matija Sarkic, with a value of $110k who actually joined the club at the end of the season - May 2021.

Aston Villa ($417m)

Aston Villa’s most valuable player in 2020-21 season and actually the club’s only player who costed more than $50m in the same season - and still - is Jack Grealish with a value of $71.5m. The rest of Villa’s players actually costed less than $40m in 2020-21 season. Here are the values of the next four players after Grealish on the list of Aston Villa’s most valuable players in 2020-21 season: Douglas Luiz, $38.5m, Ollie Watkins, $35.2m, the recently-joined goalkeeper from Arsenal, Emiliano Martinez, $33m, and

John McGinn

, $33m. And Villa’s least valuable player in 2020-21 season was the 29-year-old English goalkeeper, Jed Steer, with a value of $880k.
