Deserved Victory for Al-Ahli Jeddah Over Al-Taawoun

Roberto Firmino scores two goals, and Riyad Mahrez and Franck Kessie add the others in an exciting match in round 21

Al-Ahli Jeddah club achieved a deserved and worthy victory at the expense of Al-Taawoun team with a score of 4-1 in the match that was held on Saturday evening at Prince Abdulaziz bin Musaed Al Jalawi Stadium, within the 21st round of the Saudi Professional League.

With this victory, Al-Ahli raised its balance to 43 points, occupying the third place in the standings, while Al-Taawoun’s balance froze at 18 points in the sixteenth place.

Al-Ahli players scored four goals, where Roberto Firmino scored two goals in the 45+8 and 60 minutes, Riyad Mahrez added the third goal in the 82nd minute, and Franck Kessie concluded the scoring record in the 88th minute. While Bernard Mensah from Al-Taawoun managed to score a single goal in the 43rd minute.

Al-Ahli started the first half effectively, as it advanced towards Al-Taawoun’s area and controlled the midfield, and the first real chances appeared in the ninth minute when Al-Taawoun’s goalkeeper saved his goal from a shot by Riyad Mahrez.

Al-Ahli’s attack continued to threaten Al-Taawoun’s goal, and Firmino almost opened the scoring in the 13th minute, but Abdulaziz Majrashi removed the ball from the goal line.

Goalkeeper Braga returned to save his team from receiving the first goal, when he deflected a header from player Franck Kessie skillfully.

The last minutes of the first half witnessed great excitement, as Bernard Mensah from Al-Taawoun took advantage of a counter-attack to open the scoring for his team. Al-Ahli’s response was not delayed much, as Firmino equalized with a precise header that benefited from a cross by Riyad Mahrez.

In the second half, Al-Ahli continued its pressure, and Firmino scored the lead goal in the 60th minute with a header. Al-Taawoun left the match after that, and its players entered into repeated discussions with the referee, which allowed Al-Ahli to control the course of play in the second half.

When the clock was pointing to the 82nd minute, Riyad Mahrez added the third goal for Al-Ahli, where he shot a strong ball from outside the penalty area and found its way to goalkeeper Braga’s net.

In the last minutes of the match, Franck Kessie confirmed Al-Ahli’s deserved victory by scoring the fourth goal with a header, taking advantage of the laxity in Al-Taawoun’s defense.
