Can Barcelona Qualify in the UEFA Champions League?
Pressure mounts on Xavi's team due to recent results, and Xavi calls for a response.
In recent times, Xavi's team has faced challenges in their performance, losing points in their match against Rayo on Saturday and suffering a defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League at the beginning of November.
Despite holding a three-point lead over Shakhtar, who occupies the second position in their European group, a defeat against Porto could potentially see the current champions drop in the European league standings.
In a press conference, Xavi urged his team to respond to their recent performance decline, stating, "I am very strict with the players. We need to demand a lot from ourselves, as we are no longer at the level we were almost two months ago. We must make an extra effort, regain our effectiveness, and the winning spirit we had. Now, we notice a slight decline, and we must show more humility, generosity, and unity, starting from tomorrow."
In a broader context, Xavi hasn't benefited much from the cohesion within his team this year. Barcelona has faced challenges in dealing with injuries throughout the season, losing midfield star Gavi to a knee injury that forced him to end his season early. Nevertheless, they managed to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Porto in their latest encounter.
Barcelona will host Porto at the Olympic Stadium next Tuesday, preceding a clash with Atletico Madrid on the following Sunday.
