Joao Felix's Sacrifice
From Atletico to Barcelona with a Dream
Joao Felix has disclosed that he willingly accepted a significant reduction in his salary to make the move from Atletico Madrid to Barcelona, expressing his openness to securing a permanent transfer. The Portuguese international forward arrived at Camp Nou initially on a season-long loan deal towards the end of the summer transfer window, fulfilling his dream of playing for Barcelona, much to the chagrin of some in the Spanish capital.
Felix, who had a loan spell at Chelsea last season, revealed to Mundo Deportivo that he made personal sacrifices to join the reigning La Liga champions: "I did indeed forgo a substantial portion of my salary, but I was in need of a change. I wanted to come to a place where I could showcase my style of football, and I've always believed this is the perfect place for that. Things have been going well, even better than expected at the start. It was a necessary effort for me to rediscover joy in playing football."
Felix's agreement with
Barcelonadoes not include a purchase option, meaning the 23-year-old, who originally joined Atletico for €126 million (£109m/$134m) in 2019, must perform impressively to position himself for another lucrative transfer in the future.
