Scaloni: "Messi wasn't ready to play"

Lionel Messi did not play in the game against Bolivia.

Argentina

defeated Ecuador 1-0 in their first match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and went on to defeat Bolivia 3-0 in their second game. Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina who scored the winning goal against Ecuador, did not play in the match against Bolivia.

Lionel Scaloni, the coach of the Argentine national team, said after the match that Messi was not ready to play.

"He wasn't ready to play. Yesterday he tried to recover and he didn't feel comfortable and we didn't take the risk.”

he said.

“He wasn't fit. Yesterday in training we wanted him to try and he didn't even try."

Argentina will play against Paraguay in their next game.
