Antonio Conte agrees with Richarlison about "s**t Tottenham season"
Telling "this season has been s**t", Richarlison didn’t hold back his criticism following Tottenham’s exit from the Champions League at the hands of Milan.
Conte’s men were held to a goalless draw at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday as they were knocked out after losing 1-0 to AC Milan on aggregate.
The former Everton striker, who is yet to score a Premier League goal for his new club, told his post-match interview: "This season, and forgive my language, has been s***. I don't have enough minutes, was injured for a bit, but when I'm on the pitch I give my life."
Although many believed Richarlison's views were questioning under-pressure Tottenham boss Antonio Conte, the Italian doesn't see the comments that way, while agreeing with his views on his campaign. Moreover, he believes the Brazilian made a mistake when referencing himself rather than the team.
"He didn't criticize me. He said his season was s***and he's right. His season has been not good," he told a press conference.
"He had injuries, played and scored in the Champions League and then went to the World Cup and then had a serious injury. He's scored no goals for us.
"I think he was really honest to say his season was not good. His season has not finished yet. If he deserves to play, I'll give him the opportunity.
"For the rest of the interview, I think he made a mistake. When you speak of 'I' and not 'us' you are being selfish. I say to my players if we want to build something important and win a trophy we have to speak with 'we' not with 'I', because otherwise you're thinking of yourself.
"He made a mistake and he apologised and it was good for me to clarify with the team again about this. In this aspect we have to improve. We have to be more of a team and show more spirit positive, especially in negative moments."
