Ancelotti provides injury update on Benzema and Militao

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is hopeful that Karim Benzema's injury is not serious after he left the pitch against Valencia.

Real Madrid

beat Valencia in La Liga at home on Thursday thanks to goals from Marco Asensio and Vinicius Junior. Real is now five points behind Barcelona in the table.

Eder Militao

suffered a groin injury in the first half, and

also left the pitch in the second half due to injury.

Ancelotti said:

"Karim seems like a slight problem and Militao will not be fit on Sunday.”

Rodrygo has scored nine goals for Real Madrid this season, but he is not a regular starter, and he also started the game against Valencia on the bench.

Ancelotti was asked about the reason Rodrygo does not play more, despite his good form in the recent weeks.

“Sometimes I leave Rodrygo on the bench because I think he can make more of a difference off the bench. He has changed a lot of matches and his work off the bench won us a Champions League.”

Real Madrid will face Real Mallorca away from home on Sunday, And then they fly to Morocco for the Club World Cup competition. The Champions League winners will face either the Seattle Sounders or Al Ahly in a semi-final tie next Wednesday.

"January was a hard month after the World Cup and we've turned out well. We're going to see in February. It doesn't stop here,"

Ancelotti said.

"Luckily, they have put the game on Sunday for both us [and Barcelona]. Imagine they had put ours on Saturday night!"
