Joelinton fined £29,000 for driving under the influence and hit with a year-long driving ban

Newcastle star Joelinton was issued with a fine and a driving ban following him admitting to drink driving.

After pleading guilty to drink driving on January 12,

Joelinton

has been hit with a  £29,000 fine and a 12-month driving ban by the Newcastle Magistrates Court.

The 26-year-old was arrested at 01:20 GMT in his Mercedes G-Wagon after being pulled over by the Newcastle police. His intoxication level was 50mg per 100ml of breath on site which is above the legal limit of 35mg.

Judge Paul Currer handed the Brazilian a fine and a ban, which will be reduced to 9 months if Joelinton completes a rehabilitation course.

"You placed yourself in real jeopardy and it could have had disastrous consequences for the lives of others,"

Currer told the player.

"I sincerely hope you have learned from this mistake and we don't see you in this court again."

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe chimed in on the matter back in January 13, saying:

"I think he understands his responsibilities. We're now in a position where we're supporting him, and we also understand as a football club the seriousness of the situation."

’ great season so far. The Brazilian forward has scored 4 and assisted twice this season, with his last goal being the one he scored against Southampton in last night’s EFL semi-final tie.
