Man Utd 2-1 Man City: The Red Devils win their way into the title race
The red side of the Manchester will be roaring tonight as ten Hag’s men defeat Man City in an exhilarating match.
Manchester United continue their streak of good results as they make a comeback and win the crucial Manchester Derby. The Red Devils are now only two points behind City and 7 behind the first-place Arsenal, making them a genuine title contender.
Despite the narrow win and the fact that Man City scored the first goal, Manchester United was the team that looked most likely to score for the majority of the match. Guardiola’s men had a lackluster first half with United taking control at home.
The break changed the story a bit as City started asserting more control on the match. With Haaland and Foden soundly marked by Varane, Wan-Bissaka and Shaw, Guardiola decided to bring on Grealish in the 57th minute. Grealish proved to be the game changer as he scored only 3 minutes later, making it 1-0 to City.
Grealish’s goal was his second of the season and he was assisted by Kevin De Bruyne who recorded his 10th assist of the season making it the 5th season he has done so. The Belgian playmaker is only behind Fabregas (6) in that regard.
then controlled more of the ball with United sitting a bit deeper but as Guardiola’s substitutes proved useful so did ten Hag’s. the Dutch tactician brought in Garnacho to replace Eriksen which moved Rashford to the center. This became a catalyst for ten Hag’s plans since Rashford’s position at center forward proved essential in United’s goals.
The goals for United came in quick succession as a Casemiro pass found Rashford deep in City’s defense but the Englishman was offside so he let the ball go to Bruno Fernandes who scored. The goal was certainly controversial and would be talked about for days but VAR ruled it onside and Fernandes’ goal stood.
The 3 minutes later,
Unitedcaught City once again sleeping as the ball was received by Garnacho in the left hand side of City’s box. The Argentine did a feint and a turn and his left-footed pass found Rashford in the penalty box who slotted it in easily, making him once again the hero for United.
United’s win over City could prove vital in the title race down the line but for now Arsenal has a chance to go 8 points clear of 2nd place City if they win the tough North London Derby tomorrow.
