Villa sign the first Unai Emery-era player as Alex Moreno joins from Betis

Real Betis left-back Alex Moreno joins Unai Emery’s Aston Villa as their first bit of business in January.

Unai Emery may have been appointed as the manager of Aston Villa for a couple of months but the arrival of left-back

Alex Moreno

from Real Betis will be the first player signed in the Unai Emery era.

The 29-year-old left back arrives from Copa del Rey holders for £13.2million (€15m) to compete for places with former Barca left-back Lucas Digne at Aston Villa. Moreno’s contract at Villa will be valid until 2027.

In regards to the new arrival at

Villa

, manager Unai Emery told the official website:

"Alex is a good player that can help our squad. He has been one of the top left-backs in LaLiga over the past few seasons and we are delighted to have him here."

Emery’s start at Villa has been met with positive reactions since the Villains have won 3 of their 5 EPL matches under Emery. However, they were humiliated in the FA Cup as they were knocked out by the fourth-tier Stevenage as they defeated Villa 2-1.
