Gianni Infantino wants a stadium named after Pele in every country

Pele, the Brazil football legend, died on Thursday in Sao Paulo following a battle with cancer. Pele was the only player who won three World Cups. FIFA president asks every nation to name a stadium after the Brazilian great.

After years of battling cancer, the three-time World Cup winner died aged 82 after being moved to palliative care early in December. His daughter confirmed the death of the iconic footballer on Thursday.

's funeral on Monday where his coffin was placed in the centre circle at Urbano Caldeira Stadium in Sao Paulo. Infantino told reporters in Brazil:

"We are going to ask that all countries in the world have at least one stadium with the name of Pele.

"[This will be] so that children know Pele's importance [to the game of football]."

Pele first helped



win the 1958 World Cup when he was just 17 years and 249 days old, making him the youngest player ever to win it. He helped the Selcao win the World Cup two more times in 1962 and 1970.

Pele scored 757 goals in 831 games in his 20-year career from 1957 to 1977 although Santos claims his tally was closer to 1,000.
