Barcelona loanee Nico Gonzalez suffers fractured metatarsal

Nico Gonzalez suffered a serious injury during Valencia's 2-1 defeat to Villarreal on New Year's Eve.

has announced that

Nico Gonzalez

suffered a fractured metatarsal against Villarreal on Saturday. Nico reportedly may be out of action for a period of at least two months.

The club said in a statement:

"Nico Gonzalez has been diagnosed with a fracture of his fifth left metatarsal, suffered in the LaLiga game against Villarreal CF.

"The player and the Valencia CF medical team will assess treatment options for the injury.”

Gonzalez, who turns 21 on Tuesday, has played in 13 La Liga matches for Valencia side this season. Gennaro Gattuso's side is in tenth place with 19 points after 15 matches.

Nico will miss the Spanish Super Cup semifinal against Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia. He will also miss the match against La Nucia in Copa Del Rey, along with three league games against Cadiz, Almeria, and Real Valladolid.

The Spanish midfielder joined

Barcelona's

academy in 2013 and made his first team debut in 2021. Nico scored his first professional goal on December 2021.

On August 2022, Gonzalez extended his contract with Barcelona until 2026 and then joined Valencia on a season-long loan.
