Tottenham 0-2 Aston Villa: Unai Emery Checkmates Antonio Conte

After a frustrating draw with Brentford last Monday, the Spurs hosted Aston Villa for their next Premier League game on Sunday. Aston Villa lost to Liverpool in their return to the Premier League. It was Aston Villa who secured a victory thanks to goals from Buendia and Luiz.

The fifth-placed

Tottenham Hotspur

, who had bagged 31 points before the match, hosted the 12th-placed

Aston Villa

as both sides had a disappointing return to Premier League football last week.

While Antonio Conte’s men had to settle on a 2-2 draw with Brentford, Villa suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool. Villa defended well through the first half as Tottenham's chances were limited. Their best chance was when Young cleared

Harry Kane

's header off the line as the two teams settled on a goalless draw in the first half.

However, Villa turned things around in the second half as they scored two goals through

Emiliano Buendia

and

Douglas Luiz

. First, Lloris made a mistake saving Luiz from range as McGinn put him for the final touch in the 50th minute. Then Buendia scored through a quick play after dispossessing Kane in the 73rd minute.

The hosts continued to push for a  goal, but they struggled to break Villa down as Unai Emery's men achieved a precious away victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
