Lopetegui confirms the arrival of ‘very complete’ Matheus Cunha

The Brazilian striker has joined Wolverhampton in a deal that was surrounded by a bit of controversy

Wolves’ new boss Julen Lopetegui has confirmed that the 23-year-old

Matheus Cunha

will be joining them from Atletico Madrid when the January transfer window opens.

Cunha will be joining on a loan deal with an obligation to buy from Wolves, having undergone his medical this week. As Wolves are gearing up to be back in Premier League action on the weekend, Lopetegui broke the news to the press, saying:

"Today I have to talk about [Cunha]. It's clear he is going to be with us. It is going to happen once the market is open.

"Now, of course, he's going to be our player, but [for] the next matches, we have to focus on the players that are here. They have to play against the rest of the teams.

"He's a good player. I know him, and I think he's a good signing for us for the present and also for the future.

"He is a very complete forward. He has a good condition, good skills, not only technically but physically. This is England, and in the Premier League you have to be a very complete forward if you want to survive.

"I think he has this profile to play here for a lot of years. Of course, we are going to help him to develop his strengths in the future."

Cunha, who won a Gold Medal with Brazil in Tokyo 2020 Olympics, talked about feeling loved or feeling affection in his farewell post to Atleti fans.

The statement seemed like a dig at Simeone

who never bore any love for the player ever since his arrival at Atleti from Hertha Berlin.

Regardless of what transpired between the two,

Wolves

’ new arrival will reportedly cost them £34million (€40m) by the end of the season.
