Guardiola: "Messi left no doubt that he’s the greatest of all time"

Lionel Messi scored twice to help Argentina win the World Cup on Sunday, in addition to winning the tournament's Golden Ball. His former manager, Guardiola believes the Argentine striker has ended the GOAT debate.

Facing the reigning World Cup champions on Sunday,

for the third time after a 4-2 victory in the penalty shoot-out.

Former Barcelona manager and the current Man City boss,

Pep Guardiola

, said about Messi in his press conference: "

Nobody can doubt, he's there as greatest of all time

."

Julian Alvarez

, who also contributed a lot to Argentina's World Cup-winning campaign, Guardiola added:

“We are incredibly happy for Julian, congratulations to him and Otamendi, personally to Messi. To Argentina, well deserved. We're delighted for Julian, he played a lot, his contribution was amazing. We have a world champion in our team.

“He'll have a week, ten days off. Many games, lots of tension. He'll have a break, maybe before the new year [he will be back]."

Manchester City will return to competitive football tomorrow in an EFL Cup game against

Liverpool

. Guardiola said on the two clubs' improving relations:

“Be supportive, support your team unconditionally. This country is the best example. Enjoy the games with incredible players on both sides. Always has been this way.”
