'Everything went to hell' - says Enrique after World Cup exit

Luis Enrique breaks his silence on Spain’s disappointing exit from the World Cup.

Luis Enrique admits that “everything went to hell” as

failed to deliver on its promises and were knocked out of the World Cup by Morocco.

Morocco, who has since knocked Portugal as well and are set to face France in the semis, defeated Spain in penalty shoot-outs after the two teams finished the match goalless. Spain managed over a 1000 passes whilst creating close to no goal-scoring opportunities. Enrique was heavily criticized for the way Spain played and has since been replaced by De La Fuente as head coach.

Former Barca manager streamed on Twitch about the World Cup exit:

"In 90 minutes, everything went to hell. It is clear that we did not play a good game against Morocco.

"I saw it positively. Right now I am calm and satisfied with what we have done. We generated enthusiasm and desire to see the national team.

"We have seen it. Many young people and children came to see us at the hotel. We could do better, I am aware, but I tried to take the best players and those who embodied my ideas."

Enrique talked about the criticisms he faced for the squad he named for the World Cup, saying:

"It consoles me that the same thing happens to others. I don't enter the debate. I respect it.

"I make the decisions with my staff. Nobody makes recommendations to me, nobody from the press has dedicated even 10 per cent of the hours that my staff and I have dedicated."

He continued by revealing his desire to manage a club, as he said:

"I want to continue training at a club to develop what I did in the national team. That has been a dream. This stage is over. I'll wait for the start of next season."

The former Barcelona manager was linked to a move to

Manchester United

before the appointment of Erik ten Hag but now has to wait for the new season to come around to see what opportunities will present themselves.
