Barcelona wants to terminate Jordi Alba's contract by mutual consent

Barcelona wants to start discussions with Jordi Alba in January about terminating his contract at the end of the season.

According to Mundo Deportivo,

Barcelona

is set to talk with

Jordi Alba

in January about his future. Reports suggest that Barcelona will offer Alba a contract termination.

If Alba rejects Barcelona’s offer, the club will try to re-negotiate his current deal and lower the salary but their priority is to release the Spanish player. Following the retirement of Gerard Pique, Barcelona also wants to sell Memphis Depay in January and has no plan to extend

Sergio Busquets's

contract when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old defender is under contract until 2024 but Barcelona wants to terminate his contract in the summer of 2023 to reduce its wage bill. Alba is Barca's 3rd highest-paid player after Frenkie de Jong and Sergio Busquets.

Alba always has said that he wants to retire at Barcelona and is open to extending his contract. He also rejected a possible move to Inter Milan this past summer. Alba has lost his place in the starting XI to Alejandro Balde this season and has just started in nine matches in all the competitions.

Alba joined Barcelona from Valencia in 2012 for a transfer fee of €14 million. He has scored 25 goals in 441 games and has won five La Liga titles, one Champions League title, five Cope Del Ray titles, and the club World cup.

Alba also was part of Spain’s squad that won the European Championship in 2012.
