Uruguay denied by woodwork in goalless draw against South Korea

Thursday's World Cup clash between Uruguay and South Korea finished without a goal at Education City Stadium.

Eight different sides have now drawn their opening game of the 2022 World Cup 0-0, which is the most ever in a single edition of the tournament.

Uruguay

will face Portugal in their next group game while

South Korea

plays Ghana, while both games are on the 28th of November.

South Korea missed a great opportunity in the 34th minute when Hwang Ui-Jo fired the ball over the bar from close range following a low cross from right-back Kim Moon-Hwan.

Uruguay came close to scoring in the 43rd minute but Godin's header from a

Valverde

corner crashed into the left post.

The first half was evenly contested with both sides having good spells throughout. South Korea started and ended the half well. On the other side, Uruguay was more dangerous with the ball and on the counterattack. South Korea was disciplined and they were not easy to break down.

Valverde could score for Uruguay with a powerful shot from distance in the 90th minute but it cannoned off the post.

The second half was mostly quiet but it burst into life toward the end. In the end, neither side could find a goal as the game finished goalless.

South Korea managed to keep their consecutive clean sheets at the World Cup for the first time. They beat Germany with two goals in their last game in 2018.
