Spain 7–0 Costa Rico: La Roja's Biggest Ever World Cup Victory

Japan stunned Germany in the first game of Group E when they completed a comeback to win their Qatar 2022 opener 2-1 against Germany. Spain started the game looking to put an early gap to the Germans as they succeeded, sitting at top of the table alongside Japan with three points.

After scoring a first-half goal through Gundogan,

suffered a comeback against

Japan

in their World Cup opener as the Japanese scored twice to seal a 2-1 victory in the second half. It seemed like a perfect opportunity for Spain for creating a group gap between their continental rivals.

Spain

dominated the game from the very beginning as they reached an early opener in the 12h-minute by

Dani Olmo

. After constant threats, Gavi played Olmo in as he clamly finished over Navas. Olmo's goal was Spain's 100th World Cup goal. Asensio doubled Spain's lead in the 21st minute assisted by Spain veteran Jordi Alba. Spain kept their pace by scoring ten minutes later from the penalty spot by Ferran Torres as they headed dressing room on a 3-0 lead.

Ferran Torress scored another goal in the 54th minute while

Costa Rica

denied further chance from Spain. However, Gavi, Soler, and Alvaro Morata added three more goals for Spain to send the La Roja with a comfortable

7-0 victory

in their first game of Qatar 2022. The victory sends Spain to the top of Group E table while they face Germany in their next group game.

It's the first World Cup game of the history that Spain have scored seven goals in as the game marks Spain's biggest ever victory in the competition.
