Pioli feels that Milan has ‘spirit and quality’ in fight with Napoli

Milan manager Stefano Pioli spoke about their weekend win over Fiorentina and the ‘anomalous’ season so far.

Pioli thinks that their hard-fought win over

Fiorentina

was due to his side’s ‘belief, spirit and quality’ and that he looks forward to see how Napoli fares following the World Cup.

Pioli who was back in his hometown of Parma accepted an award at the "Teatro Regio di Parma", commenting on the way the season has been going and their match against Fiorentina.

“We played with great intensity against a side that caused us a great deal of problems. Winning games like this means we believe, we have spirit and quality, because without those elements, you don’t win these matches.”

“It is an anomalous campaign, there are still 23 games to go and there’s room for anything to happen. Napoli’s incredible results have also been anomalous. We’ll have to see how everyone emerges after the World Cup.”

AC Milan

will take a short rest before resuming training December 2 with friendlies scheduled in their 10-day camp at Dubai against the likes of Arsenal.

When mentioned how they, like

Napoli

, were the underdogs of last season’s title race, Pioli rejected the notion, saying:

“I think we were the best team, because in the decisive moment when we had to win six to eight games in a row, we did it with the kind of unity, soul and talent that the other teams couldn’t muster.”

He also commented on the ‘Pioli’s on Fire’ chant that the fans sing for him, saying: “

It is unusual and moving, because it is not to be taken for granted. The chant started with my players, then the fans. Watching back the footage from last season was emotional, it’s a marvellous dream.”
