Brentford's Ivan Toney is being investigated over gambling allegations

The Brentford striker Ivan Toney is the subject of an FA inquiry over claims related to match-betting.

On Sunday, the Daily Mail newspaper claimed that the FA is investigating

Ivan Toney

over alleged gambling offences for seven months but he has not been charged.

Toney is being investigated for bets made before he joined Brentford and he has not been accused of gambling on his own team to lose but the FA prohibits players from betting on the sport.

Brentford

star released a statement on Sunday and said he is assisting the Football Association with their enquiries.

"I'm aware of a story about me in a national newspaper today,"

Toney wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

"I have been assisting the Football Association with their enquiries and will not be making any comment until such investigation has reached its conclusion.

"I am a proud Englishman and it has always been my childhood dream to play for my country at a World Cup finals.”

A Brentford statement read:

"We note the story concerning Ivan Toney and the FA investigation. The club will not be commenting.”

Gareth Southgate will name his squad for the

World Cup

on November 10 and the 26-year-old Toney who was in the latest England squad but has not played for his country, is hoping to be on the list.

Toney joined Brentford in 2020 and since then has scored 55 goals in 103 matches. He has scored 8 goals in the Premier League this season.
