Pioli addresses the last season’s Spezia controversy

As Rossoneri prepare to meet Spezia, Pioli assures the fans that he and his players ‘didn’t even think’ about their loss to their rivals from last season

With an opportunity to plant themselves in the second place ahead of

Atalanta

, Pioli’s men must face

Spezia

.

The last meeting between the two teams was a strange one as Milan scored to make the game 2-1 only for the referee to take the goal back and give Milan a free kick for a foul on Spezia players earlier. That free kick was then played and Spezia were able to launch a counter attack and make it 2-1 and eventually win the match.

“That was last season, a different time, I didn’t even think about it. We know there are difficulties, that we are coming off a defeat in the league and want to get right back on track,”

Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.

“I think the choices I made were based on the fitness levels of my players.”

Pioli also talked about Divock Origi who has yet to make his mark at

Milan

:

“He is physically in good shape, a strong player, so I always expect a lot from my players and he will be ready to do well tonight.”

In regards to the mid-week match Milan have coming up, Pioli stated: “

We cannot make the mistake of looking too far ahead. We had two very tough Champions League matches and didn’t do as well in Serie A, so we want to prove tonight that we can handle both competitions.”
