Galtier calls PSG ‘unbalanced’ and too reliant on Messi, Neymar & Mbappe

In a 7-goal thriller that saw all three of PSG’s superstar trio on the scoresheet, manager Galtier expressed his unhappiness about his ‘unbalanced’ squad

Cristophe Galtier points out a problem many critics have associated with PSG which is their unbalanced squad and the Frenchman issued that his team cannot be overly-reliant on their superstars to get them out of trouble every time.

PSG fell behind two times against Troyes after Mama Balde scored twice to cancel out Soler’s equalizer. But it was Lionel Messi who put PSG on level terms again before providing Neymar an assist for the third goal. Mbappe then scored the fourth from the spot and later Troyes pulled one back to make it 4-3 in a thrilling match.

Despite showing off their attacking prowess, Galtier wasn’t happy with his team’s overall performance stating:

"The team was very unbalanced from the start. Some players had trouble finding their levels.

"We won very few balls high up the pitch and lost too many duels. On a defensive level, we made far too many mistakes and again conceded from a set-piece.

"This is something we have to spend time on to fix, something we have to make work. If we have to score four goals to win each time, it's going to be complicated.

"We got ahead of ourselves because we succeeded on the offensive level, but we left ourselves completely open."

With 54 goals in 19 games, PSG has the second best goal tally in Europe behind Bayern Munich (69 goals in 20 matches) but the overall feeling at the club is that they have to do better defensively. Marco Verratti also echoed Galtier’s sentiment:

"We didn't defend well today. We cannot concede three goals at home,"

he said.

"We have to find a better balance to our game."

Almost half of PSG’s recent goals (25) have had Messi, Neymar and Mbappe directly involved in them either as a scorer or an assister which is why Galtier kept them all on the pitch.

"They had to stay on until the end if we were going to get the win,"

he said.

"If the score had been different, with the team a few goals ahead, we could have managed it more.

"Plus, we know Neymar will not play on Wednesday [against Juventus] because of suspension. We knew today we would have to keep our attacking power to score goals."
