Griezmann finally re-joins Atletico Madrid permanently

The France international cut off all ties with the Blaugrana after his return to Atletico Madrid has become permanent.

Antoine Griezmann

has been playing in the Spanish capital again since his loan move from Camp Nou in 2021 as his transfer was not going as planned. At the beginning of the current season, Atletico Madrid were considering triggering his buy-clause. However, they have now reached an agreement with Barcelona for an initial €20 million (£18m/$19m) move for the 31-year-old, who will sign a long-term contract.

The Frenchman has met the back of the net only 35 times in 102 games for the Catalans, but for Atletico Madrid, he was able to score more than 140 in two spells. Moreover, he contributed to the Europa League victory with Los Rojiblancos in 2018 as well.

A club statement read:

“Atletico de Madrid and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement over the transfer of Antoine Griezmann, who since the summer of 2021 and until now had played for our club on loan from FC Barcelona. In addition, the French striker has signed a contract that will link him to our club until 30 June 2026. In the current campaign, the French striker has taken part in all the league and continental matches played by the team in which he has scored three goals and provided two assists.”

All the speculations regarding Griezmann’s future are now answered and the France international will focus on making his way into Diego Simeone’s plans while also trying to help his country in the World Cup in Qatar.
