Al-Hilal president confirms £2m a week offer to Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo pushed for a move away from Manchester United this summer. Failing to materialize such a move, Al-Hilal’s president reveals the negotiations with the Portuguese star.

Although Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Sporting CP, and Napoli were all linked with a move for United's forward,

Cristiano Ronaldo

failed to secure a move away from the club this summer. The 37-year-old striker filed an official transfer request to seal a move away from

Manchester United

to play in the Champions League in the last years of his playing career.

It was earlier reported that

Al-Hilal,

who won the Saudi Professional League last season, has offered Ronaldo a two-year deal worth £211million. Talking to the

Thamanya

YouTube channel, the Saudi club's president

Ben Nafel

confirmed the reports while revealing the move only fell through to the club's latest transfer ban.

"Yes, we negotiated with Ronaldo. The problem was not in the money or the principle,"

he said

.

"Al-Hilal is able to bring in the stars of the world, but it was in the decision of the Sports Arbitration Center that prevented us from registering the players.

"We did not stop negotiating with the players despite the decision to ban, but we were delaying entering the final stage of the negotiations until the ban was lifted."

Before returning to Old Trafford for a second term in 2021,

Cristiano Ronaldo

scored 101 goals in 134 appearances for Juventus. His contract with the Red Devils is due to expire next summer.
