Eden Hazard: "Now I want to get in shape for the World Cup"

Fri 23 September 2022 | 9:57

This season, Real Madrid striker Eden Hazard has struggled for playing time and has acknowledged that he needs to play more frequently.

Eden Hazard

has said he will be back to his best once his "delicate situation" at

Real Madrid

is over.

Belgium

beat Wales 2-1 in the Nations League on Thursday. During his 65 minutes on the field, the international player for Belgium showed some good skills.

That was the longest Hazard has played in a single game this season. He has only started one of Madrid's nine games so far, and all of them have been wins.

Before the World Cup, Hazard's spot in Belgium's starting lineup has been questioned, and the former

Chelsea

forward said he needs to play more often. He told RTL,

"I was happy to start another match. You saw that, I think. I'm happy when I play and it was nice to play for the supporters here [in Brussels] again."

"I know what I can do. Now I want to get in shape for the World Cup. We'll see what the coach [Roberto Martinez] decides, but I'm happiest when I play. "When I play, I give it my all. It's a delicate situation at Real Madrid. I feel like playing more, but I can't do more. I've always said the old Eden Hazard will come back when he plays. I just need to get back into the rhythm."

Michy Batshuayi and

Kevin De Bruyne

each scored a goal and set up another to give Belgium a 2-0 lead over

Wales

. Kieffer Moore scored for Wales to make it 2-1.

Martinez's team is still only three points behind the leaders of Group A4, the Netherlands, with their last game on Sunday in Amsterdam. Hazard said,

"We are going to try to play a good game there and prepare ourselves for the World Cup,"

Hazard said.

"I'm glad we played so well after the [Wales] goal. We can learn a lot from this for the next games."
