Friedel urges Chelsea’s Pulisic to compete for a place under Potter

The ex-United States shot-stopper has shown his support to Christian Pulisic to try and get back his Blues career after the departure of Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked by the club.

Christian Pulisic

has not been in the Blues’ starting XI regularly under the reign of Thomas Tuchel and climbed down the pecking order when Raheem Sterling joined the club from

Manchester City

this summer. The United State international was linked with a move away for his lack of game time at City, but after the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel, Brad Friedel expects his former teammate to be given a fair chance under the reign of new manager

Graham Potter

.

“From a United States fan perspective, I want Pulisic to play more, and I want him to do well in the World Cup. He may really benefit from Thomas Tuchel leaving, because things weren’t going incredibly well on the playing front in terms of starts and minutes on the pitch,"

the former Tottenham and Aston Villa keeper has told Betway.

"Again, I don’t know what Graham Potter’s views are of him, but he is a new head coach so he is going to give him a chance: I am sure of that at some stage. But he might be one of the players who really benefits from a managerial change."

Pulisic has been linked with a move to

Manchester United

and Newcastle recently, with his

Chelsea

deal due to expire in 2024. The player has played in eight matches for Potter’s side this season, with just one of them being a start. Many believe that the transfer speculations are going to pick up again in the winter transfer window if Potter does not include him in his plans.

The attacker is with his national team side on international duty and is expected to be part of the team that will go against Japan and Saudi Arabia in friendlies.
