Modric not thinking about international retirement

The Croatian star does not intend to end his international career.

Luka Modric

has announced that he is not thinking about retiring from the international level at the moment.

The

Real Madrid

midfielder, who was runner-up with

Croatia

in the 2018 World Cup, plans to be the captain of this team in the 2022 World Cup. He was voted the best player of the World Cup in Russia and will now be one of the oldest players in Qatar at the age of 37, but as he and his team prepare for the UEFA Nations League matches, Modric has announced that he is not thinking about retirement just yet.

He said:

"I'm not thinking about that. I haven't made any decisions. I'm focused on the Nations League.

"We have an opportunity to qualify for the last four, then we have the World Cup and then we will see.

"I'll try to make the best decision. At that that time, I'll talk with our head coach, with the people I trust. I'm not thinking about that at the moment."

Croatia will face Denmark and if they can beat them, they will advance to the semi-finals like in the previous year competition, and Modric is aware of the challenge ahead of him and his team.

He added:

"Denmark is an excellent team. I think the biggest strength is the unity of the group itself.

"There are many excellent players, like [Christian] Eriksen or [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg from Tottenham. [But] their biggest strength is the group.

"[It is] the togetherness, the fighting spirit, and we need to perform the same way if we want to achieve a good result."
