Fernandes uses Pepe’s name to hits out at criticism on adapting to PL

Bruno Fernandes hit back at the criticisms he received and used Nicolas Pepe as an instance to say that many expect him to adapt to the league faster than most players.

Bruno Fernandes

shared his thoughts on pundits usually saying that in order for a player to adapt to the

Premier League

, a one-or-two-year spell is needed. However, he had little time to get used to the English top flight and met the back of the net 28 times during his first full season. He then mentioned

Nicolas Pepe

as an example to tell that it was not the case for him.

“He [Pepe] had some bad games and everyone was saying, ‘He still has to adapt’,”

Fernandes told The Athletic,

“but when Bruno was having a bad game, it was just because he was moaning or not focused on the game. For me, that was good, because it meant that I was ready and that’s why they were demanding so much from me.”

The Portugal international’s goalscoring tally dropped last season as he only netted 10 goals across all competitions. This season, on the other hand, he has only found the target once in eight matches for the

Manchester United

. However, he got the chance to be the captain of the team when Harry Maguire was dropped by Erik ten Hag, the United manager.

Fernandes has now been included in the Portugal squad for the Nations League clashes against the Czech Republic and Spain.
