Lothar Matthaus compares Bayern's Jamal Musiala to Lionel Messi

Sat 17 September 2022 | 15:47

Scoring four goals in the opening 6 Bundesliga matches, the 19-year-old has been among the key Bayern stars this season as the club legend hails him as the “best English talent of next generation”.

Jamal Musiala

had a memorable 2020-21 campaign as he was able to score his first senior goals through 37 appearances and also received international recognition with Germany at Euro 2020.

The 19-year-old continued his fine form by scoring four goals in the new season as

Bayern Munich

legend expresses his excitement about the youngster, calling him the best English talent of the next generation, who ironically opted to play Germany at the senior level despite representing England’s U-21 team.

German legend

Lothar Matthaus

told the

Daily Mail:

<em>

"You gave the best player from the young English generation to Germany — Musiala. I have a son who is eight years old. I have to buy the Bayern Munich shirts with No 42 on the back and the Germany shirt with No 14. My son is crazy about Musiala. So, thank you England for giving him to us! I do not know why you did not fight more to keep this player in the English shirt. We are so happy to have him.

"When he is on the field, this is like Messi three years ago. He has everything. Fast, good dribbling, the last pass, he can score. He gets the ball and always goes forward; like me against Yugoslavia.

“He is also learning to work better for the defense. He is becoming the complete player. In the future, he will be one of the very best players in the world."

Ahead of the upcoming

World Cup

in November, Musiala is eager to ensure a spot in

Germany's

squad as he has scored six goals in nine games whilst also registering three assists so far this season.
