Arsenal ready to swoop for the free agent midfielder, Xeka

Fri 16 September 2022 | 10:39

Former Lille midfielder Xeka is offered to Arsenal and other Premier League clubs.

After failing with a number of bids for Aston Villa's

Douglas Luiz

on transfer deadline day,

Mikel Arteta

admitted that he may still use more players after Mohamed Elneny was ruled out with a serious thigh injury.

Thomas Partey

has also been sidelined by injury but has reportedly returned to training ahead of a possible weekend return against Brentford. With the transfer window closed until January, Arteta's sole option for bolstering his team is to sign free agents, according to sources who revealed to 90min that the Gunners are evaluating their possibilities in the free agent market.

Xeka, a 27-year-old midfielder who left Lille in the summer after 144 appearances for the French club, is perhaps the best midfielder without a club. He made 144 games for Lille. His representatives have contacted several Premier League clubs regarding a potential emergency deal.

Arsenal is among the clubs contacted, but they have not yet made any firm bids and are examining their options for their next move. Xeka has reportedly held discussions with French club Rennes, but has postponed a final decision after receiving positive feedback from Premier League clubs.

Other available free agents include

Adel Taraabt

, Mehdi Abeid, Nemanja Radoja, Fabian Delph, and former Tottenham player

Mousa Dembele

, who recently left Guangzhou City.
