Stefano Pioli hails Dinamo Zagreb ahead of Milan's "important" match

Thomas Tuchel, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, was sacked by the club after their shock 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League opener last week. While Tuchel’s sacking stole the headlines, Pioli warns his side that “Dinamo deservedly beat Chelsea”.

Milan

opened up their

Champions League

campaign with a 1-1 draw at

RB Salzburg

last week and will host

Dinamo Zagreb

for their next group game on Wednesday.

Ahead of their European clash,

the Rosonnerri

boss warns his player to take the match seriously as the Croatian side “deservedly” beat

Chelsea

1-0 last week at home, leading to the sacking of

Thomas Tuchel

from the Premier League club.

“It’s a very important game, but not decisive yet. Last season, we earned the first victory in the penultimate game, and we could have qualified by beating Liverpool in the last match,”

Stefano Pioli

told a pre-match press conference.

“If we play at a high level, we have a good chance to win both in Italy and in Europe. At Sassuolo, we didn’t play at our level and we didn’t win. Tomorrow, we have to play at our best.”

While

Rade Krunic

is coming back from injury,

Ante Rebic

and Divock Origi will remain sidelined with

Yacine Adli

also missing the Champions League list due to injury.

I choose the best Milan in every game. The team is fine, but in the Champions League we have fewer players available because of the list,

” said Pioli.

Ante Rebic and Divock Origi will not be there, Rade Krunic is recovered. Tomorrow we will play with absolute determination.”

On

Divock Origi

's situation the Italian added:

“Not worried, but sorry. He is a player we strongly wanted and I hope he’ll be back after the break.

“We need to put our full potential into every game. Tomorrow’s match is very important, but not yet decisive because there are many other matches left. But we know it’s an important game and we prepared it well.”

Juventus

and Salernitana's

2-2 draw on Sunday

aroused many controversies around

VAR

as three players were sent off after VAR intervened to rule-out

Arkadiusz Milik's

late winner for a suspicious offside. Pioli said:

“What happened is unsettling, it’s easy to point the finger, but what is needed is to find a solution.

On his expectations from his favorite forwards,

Rafael Leao

and

Olivier Giroud

, the Italian coach said:

“One can always improve but all the lads are ambitious, Leao is playing at a high level in every competition and he must continue like that. Every game has different difficulties so I must make the right choices.”

“Olivier is happy to play every game, Charles can play in that position, obviously with different characteristics. I have many players who can fit in that role. Now we must focus on the next two games.”
