Empoli 1-2 Roma; Giallorossi back to winning ways with Abraham winner

Roma returned to winning ways after two consecutive defeats with a victory against Empoli on Monday.

Roma

defeated Empoli 2-1 away from home in Serie A on Monday. Jose Mourinho’s side now has 13 points from their first six matches in Serie A which is their best start since 2017.

Paulo Dybala

scored the first goal in the 17th minute with a curler from just outside the box. Empoli equalized through Filippo Bandinelli in the 43rd minute. He guided a header past Rui Patricio to make things level.

scored from Dybala’s floated cross in the 71st minute. Roma won a penalty in the 80th minute but Lorenzo Pellegrini’s attempt ricocheted off the crossbar.

Empoli player Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro was shown a straight red card in the 85th minute after a foul on Chris Smalling.

Roma is fifth in the table with 13 points. They host second-placed Atalanta on Sunday.
