The long-ruling monarch, who had just celebrated her Platinum Jubilee earlier this year, died at Balmoral with her son, Prince Charles, and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, by her side.
In a statement about the death of the Queen, Buckingham Palace said: "This afternoon, the Queen died in peace at Balmoral. This evening, the King and Queen Consort will stay at Balmoral. Tomorrow, they will go back to London."
