Official: Armando Broja signs new long-term Chelsea contract
Chelsea striker Armando Broja was linked with a move away from the club, but has now pledged his long-term future to the Blues.
has signed a new six-year contract with
Chelsea. This makes sure that he will stay there, even though there was a lot of interest in him during the transfer window.
The 20-year-old stood out when he was on loan with Southampton last season and scored six goals in the Premier League. According to reports, Everton and West Ham were interested in a similar deal during the transfer window that just closed.
But Broja stayed with
Thomas Tuchel
's team. In the first five Premier League games, he came off the bench three times and played. The signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona on Thursday raised questions about whether Broja would still play for the first team. However, Chelsea has shown a solid commitment to the Albanian player by saying he is "a big part of our plans going forward."
Broja said, "I don't know what to say when I think about it. It's the club I've always wanted to play for, the club I love, and the club I support. I've lived here since I was a boy, so my family and I find it hard to believe."
Aubameyang will likely compete with
Raheem Sterling
and
Kai Havertz
to lead Chelsea's attack. However, since Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner have left Stamford Bridge, Broja should have plenty of chances to prove his worth in a busy season because of the Qatar World Cup.
