Nunez expresses apology after being shown a red card

The Uruguay international, who made a move to Benfica on a deal worth £64million (€75m), had a frustrating home debut for Liverpool.

Nunez had five shots, but none of them were on target, and he reacted to the provocation of Andersen before the hour mark. The striker is the second Reds player to be dismissed on his home debut in the Premier League, with the first one being Joe Cole against Arsenal.

Nunez expressed his remorse on Twitter after the incident, posting: "I am aware of the ugly attitude I had. I'm here to learn from my mistakes and it won't happen again. Apologies to Liverpool. I'll be back."

The 23-year-old will not be playing for the Reds in their battle against Manchester United next Monday. He will also miss clashes against Bournemouth and Newcastle United.
