Matchday 13 in LaLiga has been over and after just thirteen weeks teams have lost many of their stars and players.
The number is even worse with Barcelona as the team have already lost half of the squad to injury. This is while some players have been injured even more than once.
The first injured player was Leo Messi who had to be taken care of after he tore his calf muscle in his first training session of the pre-season on 5 August and that was just the beginning. Since then Barcelona's treatment room has been so busy and the medical team have been working overtime to take care and cure the many injured players.
It has to be said that this is a very rare situation but that is how it is. It is also good to know that most of the injuries are muscular injuries, mostly calf muscle and hamstring problems.
It was on Saturday whenBarcelona went against Celta Virgo
for another LaLiga match and just after 20 minutes, Ernesto Valverde had to replace his last injured player, Nelson Semedo by Sergio Busquets, since the right-back was unable to continue the match due to a calf injury. We have to mention that Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez suffered from this same problem. Later Camp Nou announced that the 25-year-old has to be out for five weeks.
In fact, he became the 13th injured player for Barcelona this season, which means that more than half of the squad have faced health difficulties this season.
Now let’s take a look at the list of injured players and their statistics:
As we mentioned the first to miss Barcelona matches was Messi who was out due to Calf problems which prevented him from playing in Barcelona's first five games. The Argentinian came back on the pitch scoring eight goals and providing four assists in the seven matches he has played for the Blaugrana.
Suarez was Barca’s other star to be injured in his calves. The 32-year-old picked up the injury in their match against Bilbao on the opening day of the season, which led to him missing a month of action. Overall, it has to be said that this season, he has scored six goals for the team.
Dembele was one of the other important Barcelona injuries. The 22-year-old was injured at San Mames, which forced him to miss five games. He also later missed their match against Getafe due to a muscle problem. The French forward has had a role in four LaLiga matches this season, scoring once.
Norberto Murara Neto
Neto is Barcelona’s other absentee who missed the first four fixtures of the LaLiga after he broke his finger in pre-season. The goalkeeper has guarded Blaugrana’s goal, once this season.
The 19 years old hasn’t had a good season so far, as he has been injured twice! In fact, he missed the first three games of the season with a muscle strain and when he finally could come back on the pitch he was injured again in their match against Sevilla. He has kicked the ball in two matches for Barcelona this season.
The 25-year-old has missed seven matches this season due to a broken metatarsal and knee problems. In fact, he has tried to come back many times but his problems relapsed every time. He has played in two matches for his team this season.
The Brazilian midfielder was not in the squad for their match against Levante, which was odd. However, later Valverde announced that the 23-year-old has missed the match due to injury. So far he has played in eight LaLiga matches this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists for the team.
The Spanish central midfielder had to be taken off the field in the team’s clash against Eibar due to a knee ligament strain. That is why he couldn't play in Prague in their clash against Slavia Praha as well. He has played in eleven matches so far this season.
The 23-year-old left-back was missed in the team’s clash against Osasuna due to a knee ligament strain while a muscle strain sidelined him a month later. He has scored one goal in the five matches he has played for the team so far this season.
Barcelona’s Young star has been shining so far this season, performing extraordinarily. However, it has to be mentioned that the 17-year-old missed the team’s clash against Getafe and the UCL clash against Inter due to a Knee discomfort. He has scored two goals in 8 LaLiga matches he has played for the team.
The 21-year-old missed a few games with Barcelona after pulling a muscle with Spain Under-21s this season but besides that, he has been able to score a goal in the seven matches he has played in LaLiga this season.
At the moment, there are just two injuries left with Jordi Alba as one of them. The 30-year- old has been struggling with a muscle injury and no one knows when he will come back which means the ongoing injury concerns this season continues.
As we mentioned before the latest injured player is Barca’s 25-year-old right-back who is expected to be out for around a month with a calf problem.
This is while Iñaki Peña, Sergi Roberto, and Gerard Piqué are also out due to suspension.
In the end, Let’s cross our fingers for Barcelona not to add any new names to this list.
