UEFA Player of the Year finalists are Benzema, Courtois, and De Bruyne

UEFA has officially announced the final three nominees for the 2021/22 UEFA Player of the Year award as the winner will be presented during the 2022/23 Champions League group stage draw ceremony in Istanbul on Thursday 25 August.

Real Madrid

duo Karim Benzema and Thibaut Courtois who won the Champions League last year will compete with

Manchester City

playmaker Kevin De Bruyne for

the 2021-22 UEFA Men's Player of the Year Award

. Robert Lewandowski and Luka Modric came fourth and fifth respectively, followed by Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe and Madrid forward Vinicius Junior. Although five Liverpool stars were on the 15-man longlist, none of them cut to the final three.

France forward

Karim Benzema

is the favorite for the award after firing Madrid to a continental double last term in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League scoring 44 goals in 46 games across all competitions His teammate

Courtois

made a man of the match performance against Liverpool in their Champions League final last year.

Kevin De Bruyne

meanwhile won a fourth Premier League title in the space of five years with Manchester City, leading the Citizens to the semi-finals of the Champions League as well.

 

For

the 2021/22 UEFA Coach of the Year award

, the final three nominees are Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.

Guiding Liverpool to three finals as well as the maximum number of games it was possible to play last season,

Klopp

also led the Reds to their first FA Cup since 2006, as well as capturing the League Cup.

The winner of both awards will be presented during the 2022/23 Champions League group stage draw ceremony in Istanbul on Thursday 25 August.
