Milan to sign Arsenal's Lokonga for emergency midfield reinforcement

Making only three appearances since Christmas, the 22-year-old fell out of Mikel Arteta's favor last season after an £18m move from Anderlecht in 2021. However, Pioli’s side are ready to give the Belgian a chance to revive his career with a loan move looming in.

TMW

reports that Milan has approached

the Gunners

' midfielder's representatives to enquire about a possible transfer this summer. Since Sambi Lokonga's contract at the Emirates Stadium runs until 2026, Arsenal is more likely to agree on his departure on loan rather than a permanent deal.

As the outlet reports, in addition to the former Anderlecht midfielder who has one senior Belgium cap,

the Rossoneri

are considering a number of options such as Hellas Verona’s Adrien Tameze and Sassuolo’s Davide Frattesi as well.

Making a total of 25 appearances for the Gunners,

Sambi Lokonga

fell out of Mikel Arteta’s favor last season as he only made three starts in the second half of the season, far less than the nine he made before Christmas.

Milan has been rushed into the transfer market for a midfielder after their star midfielder,

Sandro Tonali

was sidelined due to injury. There is a possibility Tonali could be out of action for a month and therefore will miss the Derby against Inter.

Milan begins the Serie A season on August 13 against Udinese at San Siro on August 13. After that, they will play with Atalanta, Bologna, Sassuolo, and then Inter on September 3.
