Anti-Glazer protests force Manchester United to close their megastore

Protests against the Red Devils' owners, the Glazer family have been led by the club's fan base as the Glazers remain universally derided figures among Man United fans.

The 1958 supporter group planned a protest against the Glazer family's ownership of the club, leading

Manchester United

to close their flagship Old Trafford megastore on Sunday as they kicked off their Premier League season at Old Trafford against Brighton. Co-owner Avram Glazer was spotted in attendance at Old Trafford.

The 1958 supporter group led a demonstration against the club's owners as they marched through Salford and Manchester this Sunday, before doing a lap of Old Trafford prior to their Premier League kick-off against

Brighton and Hove Albion

.

According to the reports, when fans came back round to the megastore, the shutters came down and the shop closed, later reopening once the protestors had moved on. Supporters protested against the Glazers several times, once they forced a clash with Liverpool to be postponed when they broke into Old Trafford.

The 1958 group also planned a protest against United CEO Richard Arnold earlier this summer. However, the 51-year-old took the crew to a local pub. Parts of their conversations, including about their pursuit of

Frenkie de Jong

, were leaked online.

Earlier, following the fans’ protests after the club’s failed attempt to form Super League, the Glazer family promised bigger fan involvement, and to show their commitment to their promise, they had

a meeting with fans’ representatives

promising investment in the summer on and off the pitch to help the club’s situation in the domestic and continental competitions.

The meeting was held virtually because of the Covid-19 protocols, but it was still a big step for the club as it was the first time that one of the Glazer family members join a meeting with the supporters.
