Matteo Politano acknowledges Napoli have ‘lost many leaders’ from the squad and adjusts their ambitions to ‘at least a Champions League place.’

Matteo Politano

says that

Napoli

has "lost many leaders" and that the team's goals have changed to "at least a place in the Champions League." The Partenopei were in the running for the Scudetto and even led for a while, but then they lost their way and lost the big games.

In the end, they came in third, and the departures of Lorenzo Insigne, Kalidou Koulibaly,

Dries Mertens

, and David Ospina may have hurt their team. Politano told

Sky Sport Italia

, "We lost a lot of great leaders, but someone else can take their place this season."

"For example, Victor Osimhen needs to stay calm and work on becoming our leader on and off the field. Giovanni Di Lorenzo is a quiet captain, making him perfect for his job."

As the new season is about to start, everyone is talking about Juventus, Inter, Milan, and Roma, but most pundits leave out Napoli when they talk about teams that could challenge Juventus for the Scudetto.

"We'll see if Napoli is as good as they say for fifth or sixth place, but our goal is to make at least sure we're in the Champions League. I think it will be like the last season, but with different players. It will be a tough match for Napoli, which always aims high.
