Brighton's Potter: “Everyone won in Cucurella's transfer to Chelsea"

After Manchester City declined to meet Brighton's asking price, Chelsea swooped in to get a deal done for the versatile 24-year-old as the Blues confirmed the signing of the Spaniard on Friday as Brighton's boss, Graham Potter believes it was a win-win for all of the involved parties.

Thomas Tuchel's side splashed a £60million fee to get Brighton's left-back to Stamford Bridge as

Marc Cucurella

became

Chelsea's

fifth signing of the summer after Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Gaga Slonina

Brighton

issued a statement on social media to deny the reports that suggested Cucurella's move to Chelsea is completed. However, ahead of Brighton's Saturday Premier League opener against

Manchester United

, Graham Potter tried to explain the club's situation regarding the transfer.

"

We didn't want to sell him, and we didn't need to sell him,"

Potter said in a news conference.

"At the same time, you understand if a Champions League club comes with Champions League resources and finance, and the player indicates there is a desire to do it, it is a very difficult for us.

In a separate deal, Blues academy graduate

Levi Colwill

has moved to Brighton on a 12-month loan to help fill the void left by Cucurella.

Graham Patter

Added:

"We have to make sure we get the right fee. I think the right fee has been got, and it's another situation where everyone has won.

"The player has got a great opportunity, the selling club have got a good fee, and the buying club have got a good player as well.

"So win, win, win all around. Marc was a fantastic player for us, a great guy, I like him a lot. I wish him well, and we move forward as a group."
