Lewandowski: Bayern don't need a like-for-like replacement for me

Former Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski says they do not need to sign a like-for-like replacement for him.

Lewandowski

at end of the last season insists he wants to join

Barcelona

and finally on Saturday officially left

Bayern Munich

and joined the Catalan club for €50 million.

The 33-year-old striker joined Bayern in 2014 as a free player and scored 344 goals in 375 matches. He scored 50 goals across all competitions last season but says Bayern does not need to sign a striker to replace him.

"I think Bayern have so many talented offensive players that you don't necessarily need a number nine, a real center-forward,"

he told German outlet BILD.

"Bayern's attack is outstanding, they can manage it very well, even without a one-on-one replacement for me.

"There's Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller, Jamal Musiala. The players are given more responsibility for scoring goals and can grow in this role.”

Bayern Munich in this transfer window has signed Ryan Gravenberch, Sadio Mane, Noussair Mazraoui, and Ajax Matthijs De Ligt from Juventus.

Bayern will play with D.C. United and Manchester City during the pre-season tour. Julian Nagelsmann’s side will face RB Leipzig on July 30 in the DFL-Supercup final.
