Rangers take on Union Saint-Gilloise in the third round qualifying CL

Rangers were eliminated from the Champions League in the third round qualifying stage last season, but they have an opportunity to make up for it at Union Saint-Gilloise.

Rangers

are going to have to negotiate past

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise

in the third round of qualifying for the

Champions League

, where PSV lock horns with Monaco.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men made their way to the qualifying stages with their second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership last season, where winners go to the play-off stage and losers go to the Europa League group stage.

Rangers also had a fascinating Europa League final last season, going past Borussia Dortmund, Braga, and RB Leipzig before being defeated on penalties against Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville.

Union ended the Belgium First Division A second after being absent for 48 years and they are a tough task in the two-kegged clash, with the first game on August 2-3 before they have the second tie after a week.

Rangers were defeated at this round last year and the last time they made it past was in 2010-11.

PSV were defeated Europa Conference League quarter-finalists last season; however, with Ruud van Nistelrooy leading the team now, they have a shot at the Champions League since they ended the Eredivisie sitting second, and will lock horns with Monaco.

The Ligue 1 club were eager to seal qualification of the group stage themselves but they have to fight through qualification following being pipped for second place on the last day of the season by Marseille.
