Mesut Ozil in talks to terminate Fenerbahce contract

Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil wants to leave Fenerbahce this summer.

According to Goal.com,

Mesut Ozil

is in talks with

Fenerbahce

to terminate his contract. Ozil’s current contract runs until 2024. He joined the Turkish club from

Arsenal

in January 2021.

Former Real Madrid player scored 8 goals in just 36 appearances for Fenerbahce. Ozil's future is unclear but the 33-year-old midfielder has been linked with another Turkish side Basaksehir. A move to United States is also possible.

Earlier in the summer, Ozil dismissed claims that he will soon leave as he insists he will see out his contract and end his career at the club. The Germany international was dropped from the squad and also was suspended by Fenerbahce in March and he later revealed that he went six months without being paid.

New Fenerbahce manager Jorge Jesus recently said that Ozil would not be part of the squad.

"He had his time, his space,"

Jesus said at a press conference.

"He has a beautiful history in Turkey, nobody can take it away from him.

"He is a well-known player around the world. But I will follow exactly what was the end of the Ozil era."
